Steve follows a turbulent 1996 day at a residential reform school for troubled teenage boys, led by headteacher Steve (Cillian Murphy), as he grapples with the institution's imminent closure, a potential suicide, and his own secret struggles with alcohol and substance abuse. As a media crew arrives to cover the story, the pressure mounts on Steve to protect the school and manage the volatile chaos of the boys, particularly the fragile teenager Shy, while confronting his inner demons.
